Darrell Lloyd

Darrell W. Lloyd of Lenoir, NC, after battling Parkenson’s Disease for over 10 years, passed away peaceably on May 3, 2021 at the age of 88.He was born in High Point, NC to Rebecca Ray and Troy Lloyd. Darrell served in the Army Field Artillery during the Korean Conflict and married the love of his life - Dorothy Spear in 1952. He graduated from Appalachian State University as Honor Marshal, Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Business Technology. Darrell worked for Bernhardt Furniture most of his life and retired after 37 ½ years with the company.He was a member at Zion United Church of Christ where he faithfully served as deacon, elder, president of the consistory, member of the choir, and Sunday school teacher.His love of art led him to carve wooden Welsh love spoons after retirement for which he won many awards.Darrell loved his beautiful bride, Dottie, of 68 years and together they raised 4 children.They loved living life together:hiking, camping and traveling but their greatest joy may be the countless hours they spent together serving and volunteering, always holding hands as they served together.Some of the organizations Darrell served with Dottie at were Caldwell Yokefellow, Care Foundation of Western North Carolina, Riddle Center, Red Cross Blood Drive, Lenoir Optimist Club, Community Music Club, Caldwell Men’s Chorus, and Caldwell Memorial Hospital.Darrell was the recipient of the L. A. Dysart Award in 2001. Other awards were the Whitener Award, Governors Award, RSVP Award for Volunteering and a past member of the Toastmaster’s Club. Darrell was predeceased by his sons, Kenneth Lloyd(Cyndi) and Doug Lloyd.He is survived by his wife, Dottie Lloyd, brother, Terry Lloyd(Marie), daughters Mary Coffey(Cliff) and Rebecca Bursch(Chris), daughter-in-law Cyndi Lloyd, and grandchildren, Layla Lloyd, Jennifer Nealey(Robert), Jessica McPherson(Austin), Chris Lloyd(Lindsay), Caylin Bursch, Wes Bursch, Kelsey Coffey(Daniel), and Kendal Coffey plus 8 great-grandchildren with another one on the way.In lieu of flowers, please send donations to either Caldwell County Hospice or Zion United Church of Christ, Lenoir NC. Celebration of life will be held Saturday, May the 8th, at Zion United Church of Christ in Lenoir.Receiving will begin at 2:00 with the celebration beginning at 3:00.Evans Funeral Home will be assisting the family.
