Dale was the loving patriarch of the Smith family and was the epitome of grace and Christian integrity. A veteran of the United States Navy, he later retired from Newton Transportation, where he spent most of his career. Dale was a master gardener who delighted in sharing his vegetables and expertise with family, friends, and neighbors. When not tending his garden, Dale loved creating in his woodworking shop, crafting pieces that reflected his creativity and skill.
Dale was a dedicated coach and mentor; his passion for coaching extended beyond the game, as he encouraged and inspired everyone he met. Dale’s faith and servant heart were evident in every aspect of his life. North Catawba Baptist Church was a large part of his life, and he provided a strong example of faith by serving in numerous roles, including Deacon, Sunday school teacher, and choir member.

In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his brothers, Hillard Smith, Bob Smith, Willard Guy Smith, and Rodney Smith; and his son-in-law, Jeff Hagaman.
