Curtis Eugene “Pete” Floyd, 72, of Lenoir, NC, passed away on Monday, August 27, while surrounded by family at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson, NC. Born November 12, 1945 in McAdenville, NC, he was the son of the late Vivian (Floyd) and William Barker. Pete served in the United States Navy from 1962-1984 where he held the rank of Chief Petty Officer and served in the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Navy in 1984, Pete held positions with the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department, Caldwell County Animal Control, and Broyhill Furniture. In his spare time he enjoyed restoring his Chevrolet Nova. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Wanda (Helms) Floyd, of the home; along with three children, Kevin Floyd of Missouri, Darla (Floyd) and Larry Bankston of Albany, LA, Michelle (Floyd) and Dan Dumler of Castle Rock, CO; one brother, Danny Ray Barker; four grandchildren, Kurtis Bankston, BreAnne Bankston, Wyatt Bankston, and Kaitlyn Haley; two great-grandchildren Presleigh Bankston and Jaynei Bankston; and many other loving cousins, nieces, and nephews including Dawn (Floyd) and Michael Annas of Haw River, NC. Pete is preceded in death by his brother, James Floyd and his sister Carolyn Floyd Vincent. Memorial services for Pete will be held at New Life Baptist Church, 2111 Walt Arney Road Lenoir, NC at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 31, 2018 conducted by Reverend Terry Kale. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.Interment will follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the United States Navy.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care.
