Granite Falls – Mr. Claude Ira Seagle, age 89, of Granite Falls, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2014 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson.Born April 28, 1925 in Caldwell County, Mr. Seagle was a son of the late Lawrence and Mary Smith Seagle and the husband of Mrs. Mary Lou Clark Seagle of the home. Other than his parents, Mr. Seagle was preceded in death by his first wife, Daisy Seagle;4 brothers, Ross Seagle, Lawrence Seagle, Jr., Paul Seagle and Earl Seagle. Mr. Seagle was a member of Dudley Shoals Baptist Church for many years.He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran having served as a gunner in the Pacific during World War II.He was a self-employed mechanic. In addition to his wife Mary Lou, Mr. Seagle is survived by 8 Step-children, Ralph Burns and wife Shirley of Lenoir; Clarence Burns and wife Naomi of Rhodhiss; Margie Gilbert of Granite Falls; Wanda Stewart and husband Everett of Hickory; Bonita Jolly and husband Tommie of Granite Falls; Michael Walters and wife Brenda of Whiteville; Susan Tyner of Granite Falls; Donnie Walters and wife Michelle of Whiteville; 2 sisters, Lydia Gilliam and husband Paul; Alice Severt and husband Howard; 3 brothers, Tommy Seagle and wife Mary Lou; Dock Seagle and wife Margaret; Archie Seagle, all of Hudson; 23 Step-Grandchildren; and several Step-Great and Great-Great Grandchildren. A celebration of Mr. Seagle’s life will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Dudley Shoals Baptist Church with Reverend Don Ingle and Reverend Gordon West officiating.Burial with Military Honors will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 until 3:00 PM at Dudley Shoals Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Mr. Seagle’s Step-Grandchildren.
