Hudson, NC- Mr. Clarence Edward Arney, age 83, of Hudson, died Sunday, October 26, 2008 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. Born August 13, 1925 in Caldwell County, Mr. Arney was a son of the late Ransom and Lura Hoffman Arney and the husband of Mrs. Ethel Haas Arney to whom he was married for 52 years. Mr. Arney was a retired salesman, working with Electrolux for 35 years. He was a former choir director of Poovey?s Chapel Baptist Church.  He was very active outdoors where he enjoyed walking and bike riding. He was known for riding his bike through Hudson and being a member of the ?Bench Gang?. He enjoyed playing his harmonica and singing. He was a U. S. Army veteran of WWII. Surviving other than his wife are two daughters, Teressa Taylor and husband Jim of Hudson; Joy Nelson of Lenoir; one sister, Mary Nell Tallent and husband Kenneth of Lenoir; half-brother, Ervin Hoffman of Texas; two sisters-in-law, Lois Arney and Leola Arney, both of Lenoir; 2 granddaughters, Alicia Nelson of Lenoir; Sara Taylor of Hudson; one grandson, James Taylor of Hudson and two step-granddaughters, Jeanna Nelson and Sheena Nelson, both of Lenoir. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene, Cecil and Earnest Arney. A celebration of Mr. Arney?s life will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday in Poovey?s Chapel Baptist Church with Reverend Nicky Waters and Reverend Charlie Keener officiating. A private burial will be held in the Poovey?s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 from 6 until 8 PM at Evans Funeral Service.
