Christine Oliver Roper

Lenoir, NC- Christine Oliver Roper, age 88, of Lenoir, died Sunday, October 9, 2011 at her home. Born July 18, 1923 in Stony Point, she was a daughter of the late Thomas James and Ella Mae Isenhour Oliver and the wife of Mr. Howard L. Roper of the home. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter Nancy Lee Roper, nine siblings: Angell Adkins, Ramona Icenhour, Thomas “Spud” Oliver, Jr., Ophelia Baker, Thelma Oliver, Haskell Oliver, Rayford Oliver, Paul Oliver, and Norris Oliver. Mrs. Roper was a homemaker and a member of College Avenue Baptist Church. Surviving other than her husband are three children, Dolores Martin Estep and husband Jack; Donald L. Roper and wife Jessie; Randy D. Roper and wife Rita, all of Lenoir; 2 sisters, Marceline Knight and husband J.C. and Ruth Setzer, all of Lenoir; 6 grandchildren, Linda Greene, Lisa Martin, Stephen Roper, Donna Roper, Madison Roper, Hollie Pennell; 3 step grandchildren Craig Estep, Angie Vite, Neil Estep; 6 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. A celebration of Mrs. Roper’s life will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at College Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Earl Davis and Pastor Chuck Brawley officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the church. Pallbearers will be: Madison Roper, Stephen Roper, Gary Greene, Jake Greene, Jack Estep and Justin Pennell.
