Charley Carroll Story

Lenoir, NC – Charley Carroll Story, Staff Sgt., USAF (Ret.), age 83, of Lenoir passed away at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson, Wednesday, August 31, 2011. Born March 6, 1928 in Watauga County, Charley was the son of the late Adolphus and Mary Bradshaw Story. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Dillard, Ernest, Bill and Van Story and four sisters, Maria Story, Lucille Simmons, Ollie Story and Juanita Saunders. Charley was a 21 year veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he served his country in WWII and the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1965 and returned to Caldwell County. He worked for Rospatch Corp. for more than 20 years before he retired in 1988. He enjoyed golf and worked at Orchard Hills Golf Course as a starter for many years. He was a lifelong member of Miller Hill Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret Elizabeth “Dib” Winecoff Story of the home, daughters Kathy Saunders and her husband Doug of Lenoir and Teresa Angel and her husband Gary of McLeansville. He loved his grandchildren Christa Saunders and J.D. Angel. He is also survived by his sisters, Mrs. Mag Miller of Lenoir, Mrs. Pat Pilkenton of Lenoir and Mrs. Joanne Thomas of Salisbury and many, many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Charley’s life will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 2, 2011 in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Reverend Steven Walsh officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park with Full Military Honors. The family will receive friends on Friday from 9:30 until 11:00 prior to the service at Evans Funeral Service. Pallbearers will be: J.D. Angel, Kevin Story, Jeff Story, David Story, Bobby Story and Gary Thomas. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Dennis Miller and Jim Taylor. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care and the wonderful staff of Right at Home. We would also like to especially thank Mo Karimi and CNA’s Karen, Kris and Lisa for the wonderful care you gave over the past few months.
