Charles Gilbert Griffies

Lenoir, NC- Mr. Charles G. Griffies, age 75, of Lenoir, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at his residence. Born December 31, 1935 in Halifax county, he was a son of the late, Lewis and Alma Inscoe Griffies. Charles was a supervisor in the Textile industry. He was a proud Marine veteran and also served in the Army reserves for 15 years. He was a part of the 1450th Transportation Unit. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Whitnel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers; two sisters; his mother and father in law, Clyde and Edna Triplett; and his brother in law, Jack Triplett. He is survived by his wife Clidia Triplett Griffies of the home; three daughters and sons in law, Cynthia McGhee of the home, Julie & Chris Land of Lenoir, and Sandra & Edward Anders of Granite Falls; his grandchildren, Teia & Lloyd Cornett, Matthew & Amber Griffies, Ana & Coy Knight; his great grandchildren, Makaylia Shai Cornett, Landon Eric Cornett, Katana Paige Cornett, and Jason Thomas Griffies; he is also survived by numerous other relatives. A celebration of Charles’ life will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Whitnel at 2:00 PM with Preacher Stuart White officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Church cemetery with full Military honors. Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew Griffies, Edward Anders, Lloyd Cornett, Chris Land, Coy Knight, Chad Triplett, Rick Poteet and Tinker Porter.   Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Cody Poteet and Jordy Hamby. The family will receive friends at Evans Funeral Service & Crematory on Friday, January 28, 2011 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Memorials can be made to Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care at 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
