Cecil Setzer

Cecil B. Setzer passed away Sunday, June 4, 2023. He was Born in Catawba County on April 30, 1923. Cecil was the son of WC and Amanda Setzer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mae, of 72 years, brothers Forest and Reynold, three infant brothers and granddaughter Katy Setzer. He is survived by his son, Gerald (Chris), daughter Janet Bryant, 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Cecil was a Navy veteran of World War II where he served aboard the Battleship USS North Carolina. He held the rank of Petty Officer First Class. He worked for many years in furniture and was an excellent woodcraftsman. He enjoyed his garden and travelling with his wife and friends. He was a member of Central Advent Christian Church for 94 years, where he served in several capacities. He was a member of the American Legion for over 35 years. A Celebration of Cecil’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Friday, June 9, 2023 at 2:00 PM. Military Honors will be presented by the United States Navy. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to your favorite charity.
