Cecil Edward Cornett

Lenoir, NC- Mr. Cecil Edward Cornett, Sr., age 69, of Lenoir, passed away early Wednesday morning, October 5, 2011 at the Camelot Manor Nursing Center. Born November 26, 1941 in Watauga County, Cecil was a son of Ruth Jones Ritch and the late Barney Cornett. Cecil was Baptist by faith and was a member of the Worship Point Baptist Church. Cecil enjoyed car racing, CB radios, and boxing. In addition to his father, Cecil was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Cornett; and a sister, Carolyn Brotherton. Survivors include his wife, Janice Wilcox Cornett of the Home; a daughter, Natasha Roten of West Jefferson; two sons and a daughter in law, Cecil Edward Cornett, Jr. and Kyle Jay Cornett, wife Susan, both of Lenoir; a step daughter and son in law, Jeannie and Charles Burns of Lenoir; a step son and daughter in law, Jimmy Phillips, Jr., wife Goldie, of Hudson; three sisters and brothers in law, Linda and Buddy Cannon, Mary and Steve Carpenter, and Dorothy Cornett; two brothers and sisters in law, Joe and Pat Cornett and Gary and Janice Cornett; his mother in law, Ruby Wilcox of Boone; five grandchildren, Jeremy Roten, Autumn Roten, Jamie Roten, Cody Cornett and Daniel Cornett; four step grandchildren, Jennifer Blevins, Joshua Burns, Mason Phillips, and Bryson Phillips; one great grandchild, Heather Burns; Cecil is also survived by numerous other relatives. A celebration of Cecil’s life will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Worship Point Baptist Church. Officiating will be Pastor Randy Gibson and Pastor Danny Castle. Interment will follow the service in the Worship Point Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kyle Cornett, Jimmy Phillips, Jr., Steve Carpenter, Cody Cornett, Terry Berry and Junior Boiling. Honorary pallbearers will be Mason Phillips, Joshua Burns, and Daniel Cornett. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 7, 2011 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Evans Funeral Service & Crematory of Lenoir. Memorials can be sent to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative care at 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
