Carrie Elizabeth (Betsy) Yount Troutman, of Lenoir, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, March 8, 2025 surrounded by close family. Born May 12, 1940 in Caldwell County, she was the daughter of the late Stuart Lester Yount and Charlotte Lindsay Shell Yount. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles Weeks Troutman (whom she celebrated sixty-two years of marriage with prior to Chuck’s passing last year), and by her brothers (Stuart L. and Cecil E. Yount) and sister (Patricia Yount Huffman).
Betsy enjoyed traveling far and wide to visit family and friends. She was an avid reader and was known as Memaw spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren at every opportunity sitting and playing on the floor with them as they explored and learned as toddlers, and as they grew into adults hearing about and being a part of their adventures. She believed strongly that exercise was not an act, but instead a habit that gave great clarity to life – and that exercise was a tribute to your mental and spiritual well-being. Her days spent with friends at Quest-for-Life in yoga, Pilates, and aerobics gave her purpose and confidence – she said motivation is what gets you started, but hard days, determination, and exercise are what build character. She previously worked at Kaiser Hosiery in Hickory and later before retiring, most recently worked at Bair Marketing Inc. in Lenoir. Betsy enjoyed gardening and canning stressing healthy eating, and loved her many cat and dog companions through the years.
Betsy is survived by her sons, Timothy C. Troutman, wife Michelle (Lynch), and her granddaughter Elizabeth Grace all of Lenoir; Stuart C. Troutman, wife Rachel (Layne), and grandsons Samuel, Maxen, and Seth all of Lake Placid, FL; and special cousin Bobby Lon Yount and wife Elizabeth of Asheville, NC; as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Visitation with the family will be this Friday, March 14 at Evans Funeral Service & Crematory (1070 Taylorsville Rd SE, Lenoir NC) from 12:00-1:00pm with a memorial service to immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, Betsy asked that you donate to your local animal shelter and help care for orphaned or ill pets. Betsy subscribed to a belief that the best therapist always had four legs and fur, and that a love of pets was one of the most noble attributes one might have.
Evans Funeral Service is honored to serve the Troutman family.
