Carolyn Ogle, 87, of Sawmills, North Carolina, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Amorem Hospice in Hudson, NC.
Carolyn was born in Tiro, Ohio, on September 18, 1936, to the late William and Leila Witter, both proceeding her in death. Carolyn grew up in Crestline, Ohio, on her family’s farm where she learned the value of hard work and a close-knit family. She was one of five daughters and greatly cherished the relationships built with her sisters and their families. She graduated from Leesville High School in 1954 where she played basketball. She loved sports and was an avid fan of Cleveland Indians baseball and The Ohio State University during both football and basketball seasons.
Carolyn would later marry her high school sweetheart and classmate, Roy W. Ogle, on September 23, 1956, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Leesville, OH. Carolyn and Roy enjoyed a long and joyous marriage together for 65 years, raising two sons and later spoiling 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. There weren’t many things that she wouldn’t try at least once from water tubing and riding a jet ski to hiking, riding bikes, and playing a few practical jokes. Carolyn’s favorite moments were spent making memories with family. She was often most content with her children and grandchildren surrounding her for large family meals, holidays, and family camping vacations. Carolyn was a long-time member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Bucyrus, Ohio, where she was an active member of the Women’s Missionary Prayer Fellowship, and she was a recent member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Hudson, NC. In addition to her parents, Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Ogle; son, Gary Ogle; and granddaughter, Megan Ogle.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Steve Ogle (Cathy) of Danville, IL; daughter-in-law, Sandy Ogle of Sawmills, NC; four grandchildren, Anna Garner (Matt) of Connelly Springs, NC; Mark Ogle of Brazil, IN; Becky Collier of Ocala, FL; and Mary Davis of Flora, IN; as well as six great grandchildren, Will, Michael, Lilly and Leily Collier; and Gage and Gabriel Davis. Carolyn is also survived by her sisters Grace Sheppard (Dave), Alice Gelsanliter, Kristy Morrow (Dan), Kathy Pierson (Bill), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Hudson, NC, from 10-11 am on Saturday, August 31, 2024, followed by a funeral service at 11 am, officiated by Pastor Zach Kennedy. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. For those who would like to attend but are unable, a live stream of the service will be available via the church’s live stream on YouTube (search: Mount Zion Baptist Church Hudson Sawmills, NC).
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Carolyn’s name to Amorem Hospice, 526 Pine Mountain Road, Hudson, NC 28638.
