Carlene Eva Story Summerlin

Lenoir, NC – Mrs. Carlene Eva Story Summerlin, age 94, of Lenoir, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at the Gateway Nursing Center. Born March 17, 1918 in Caldwell County, Carlene was a daughter of the late Thomas and Addie Louiza Story. She was a home seamstress and always worked out of her home. She enjoyed playing Church Hymn music after dinner. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her children and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Henry Summerlin, Sr.; two daughters, Margaret Jeanette “Jean” Summerlin and Brenda Summerlin Tickle; a son, William Thomas “Tommy” Summerlin; three brothers, J.D. Story, Frank Story, and Clarence Story; and a sister, Ruth Parsons. Survivors include a son, Rufus “R.H.” Summerlin, Jr.; a son in law, Richard Tickle; a daughter in law, Brenda Baumberger; her faithful pet, Fred; four grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren and other relatives. A celebration of Carlene’s life will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Reverend Jim Hamby and Reverend Delbert Minner officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
