Bryce Huntley Sherrill

Bryce Huntley Sherrill 89 passed away Friday, September 19, 2014. Born March 27, 1925 in Caldwell County, he was the son of the late Knox Finley Sherrill and Lelia Huntley Sherrill.He was also preceded in death by a brother Keith Ernest Sherrill. Bryce was a faithful member of Tabernacle Advent Christian Church, where he served as Deacon, sang in the choir, was Chairman of the Cemetery Committee and was the Church Treasurer for 59 years.He served as Treasurer for the Piedmont Advent Christian Conference, was a Board Member for the Advent Christian Ministers Pension Fund and was a member of the Board of Directors for the Advent Christian Village in Dowling Park, FL for over 30 years.He also served as Chairman of the Board for several years and was recently awarded with the Life Member of the Village Builder’s Guild. Bryce was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and provided communications to our fleets in the South Pacific during World War II.He was a charter member of both the Lenoir Exchange Club and the Lenoir Aviation Club.He was also instrumental in the purchase of the land where the Lower Creek Airport is now located. Bryce began his career in banking with the Union National Bank, the Bank of Lenoir and was later employed by the Bank of Granite for 38 years.In addition to branch managing and loan originating, he later oversaw the design and construction of the bank’s expansion of new offices in Caldwell and Catawba counties, which have now become Community One. Among Bryce’s many hobbies were farming, flying his plane, ham radio operation, photography, drafting and architecture.Bryce was also a N.C. Licensed Contractor and was a developer and partner with his nephew Dennis and good friend Joe Roberts in their Piper Ridge subdivision. Bryce is survived by his nephew Dennis Sherrill and wife Lorraine of Lenoir; his two great-nephews Brandon Sherrill and wife Stephanie of Hickory and Brett Sherrill and wife Elena of Williamsburg, VA; his first cousins Shirley Verbyla and Marilyn Story of Lenoir; and his longtime special friend Shirley Eckerd of Hudson. A Celebration of his Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 22, 2014 at Tabernacle Advent Christian Church in Lenoir with the Rev. Frank Hall officiating.Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary from 9:30-11:00 prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Brett Sherrill, Brandon Sherrill, Joe Roberts, Keith Howell, Ray Sherrill and Alan Sherrill.Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Tabernacle Men’s Fellowship, the Lenoir Exchange Club and the Lenoir Aviation Club.
