Bruce Kirby Lenoir, NC- Mr. Bruce Nelson Kirby, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2014. He was born in Caldwell County on May 28, 1921 to the late John L. Kirby and Hessie Barlowe Kirby Parlier. Mr. Kirby was married to the late Ruth Broach Kirby for more than 60 years. Mr. Kirby was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during World War II and stationed in Europe. He was a founder and co-owner of Hibriten Supply Company and was active in the Builder̢۪s Association. He was a former member of the Lower Creek Lion̢۪s Club. Mr. Kirby was a member of Lower Creek Baptist Church where he served as deacon, Sunday School teacher, trustee, RA leader, usher and many other responsibilities over the years. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his brother, Hamp Kirby. Mr. Kirby is survived by his sisters-in-law, Anne Couch of Lenoir, Jeanette Moore of Danville, VA; brother-in-law, Tom Broach and wife, Marjorie of Lenoir; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. A celebration for Mr. Kirby will be held at Lower Creek Baptist Church on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 2:00 with Reverend Bert Blackburn officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park with military honors. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 prior to the service at the church.
