Bruce Smith Cannon

Lenoir – Mr. Bruce Smith Cannon, age 76, of Lenoir, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte.Born November 24, 1938 in Burke County, Mr. Cannon was a son of the late Felix Perry and Myrtle Leslie Smith Cannon and the husband of Mrs. Martha Geneva Miller Cannon to whom they have shared over 55 years of marriage. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Louise Gray and two brothers, Bobby Cannon and Terry Cannon. A loving husband and wonderful father and grandfather, nothing made him happier than spending time with the light of his life, his great-grandson, Carson.Mr. Cannon was a retired truck driver and member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church.He loved tractors and splitting wood. Other than his wife Martha, he is survived by his two children, Hope Cannon Haney and husband Mike of Granite Falls; Mark Cannon and wife Tammy of Morganton; ten siblings, Jake Cannon of Granite Falls; Phyllis Amos of Roanoke, VA; JoAnn Gray and husband Don of Granite Falls; Rex Cannon and wife Shirley of Granite Falls; Jerold Cannon and wife Sheila of Granite Falls; Wayne Cannon and wife Delores of Boone; Kay Woods of Winston-Salem; Troy Cannon and wife Bernadean of Sawmills; Penny Triplett and husband Roger of Lenoir and Tim Cannon and wife Tina of Lenoir.He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brooke Winebarger and husband Justin of Hudson; Meredith Reid and husband Cody of Hudson; Zachary Cannon of Hickory and his two great-grandchildren, Carson Winebarger and Valerie Carswell. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:00 PM, Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Evans Funeral Service with a Graveside Service following at Mountain Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Larry Cline officiating. Pallbearers will be:Donald Gray, Ronald Gray, Justin Winebarger, Cody Reid, Mike Haney and Zachary Cannon.
