Brent William Mergen

Granite Falls, NC- Brent William “Boo Boo” Mergen, age 52, of Granite Falls, passed away Friday, April 5, 2013 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. Born July 23, 1960 in Grant County, Wisconsin, Brent was the son of the late Thomas William Mergen and Ruth Ann Kirschbaum Mergen of Bloomington, Wisconsin. Brent will always be remembered as a generous and compassionate person. Even at his passing, he donated the gift of sight for someone else. He loved fishing, golfing, photography, the Euchre Card Game and reading. He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, a real “Cheese Head” at heart. Brent was extremely proud of his son Josh, who is currently an actor aboard the Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. Other than his mother, he is survived by his wife of 10 years, Ruth Mergen of the home; son, Josh Drake, of Portland, Maine; currently residing in New York City; 2 sisters, Kim Martin and husband Kevin of Bloomington, Wisconsin; Amy Montgomery and husband Craig of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; 2 brothers, Bruce Mergen and wife Shirley of Birmingham, Alabama; Alan Mergen and wife Dawn of Bloomington, Wisconsin and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. He is also survived by his fishing buddies, David, Timmy and Brian and his golfing buddy, Johnnie. A Casual Gathering of family and friends will take place Monday, April 8, 2013 Chapel of Evans Funeral Service from 6:00 until 7:00 PM. To honor Brent, the family asks in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to further his son, Josh Drake’s education and can be given to Ruth Mergen.
