Brenda Oliver Moore

On the morning of December 20, 2024, Brenda Oliver Moore walked through the pearly gates of Heaven straight into the arms of Jesus and was then reunited with her precious Hight.

Brenda was born May 28, 1942, to the late Norris Steele Oliver and late Helen Barlowe Oliver. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Hight Moore, and her three brothers, Dennis, Ron and Larry Oliver.

Brenda was most proud to be a Christian, a mother and a Maw Maw. She used her passion for cooking and baking to touch hundreds of lives. Sunday lunch at Maw Maw and Paw Paws’ house was her most cherished family time. She proudly managed her church hospitality committee for years, loved to prepare and feed pre-game meals to local football teams and baked and sold or donated pound cakes and sour dough bread to an innumerable amount of people.

Over a forty-year period, Brenda worked as an office manager for Dr. Paul Tilly and the Broyhill Particle Board plant. A member of Hartland Baptist Church for over 75 years, she taught Sunday School and VBS, served as church clerk, directed WMU and sang in the choir. She and Hight were dedicated to their church and shared a passion for gardening and canning. They continued to serve their church and grow their garden well into retirement.

Second only to Jesus, Brenda adored her family. She is survived by her three children, Denise Moore Kent and husband, Mike, John Hight Moore II and wife, Amy, and David Moore and wife, Laurie; seven grandchildren, Heath Kent and wife, Victoria, Jade Kent Salyer and husband, Nick, Dylan Hight Moore and wife, Evelyn, Jessie Moore and fiancée, Ezekiel Mitchell, Austen Moore, Steele Moore and Lily Anne Moore; and four great-grandsons, Nixon, Lincoln and Hayes Kent and Brock Salyer.

The family will receive friends at Hartland Baptist Church, Morganton, NC, from 12:30 pm until 2:00 pm on Monday, December 23, 2024 (Hight and Brenda’s wedding anniversary). A celebration of Brenda’s life will follow at 2:00 pm in the sanctuary.
