Branch Bennett Byrd

Lenoir, NC- Mr. Byrd Bennett Branch, of Lenoir died Friday, July 21, 2006 following a lengthy illness. Born January 1, 1929, in Caldwell County, he was beloved husband of Shirley Sherrill Branch and father of Debbie Trotter of Cody, WY; Bryan Branch of Hickory, NC; and Becky Sweet of Lenoir, NC. Survivors also include grandson Ross Whitfield Trotter, granddaughter Casey Sweet, sisters Margaret Brown, Jackie Norris, brother Robert Branch, daughter-in-law Susan Branch, and sons-in-law Dr. John Trotter and Rondal Sweet. He was preceded in death by his parents Luther Graham and Margaret Franklin Branch, brother Graham Branch, Jr., sister Hazel Biederman. He was a Navy veteran of Operation Highjump from 1946-1947 and a member of the Old Antarctic Explorers Association. He was an accomplished guitar player with interests in music, aviation, love of children and animals. The family will receive friends at Trinity United Methodist Church, Sunday, July 23, 2006 at 2:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials being made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645 or to Trinity United Methodist Church, 901 Seehorn St. NE, Lenoir, NC 28645.
