Boyd George Woodward

Boyd George Woodward, 82, of Lenoir, NC and formerly of Yorktown, VA passed away after a long battle with cancer. He was born February 15, 1942, in Granite Falls, NC.

Boyd dearly loved the Lord, his family and friends. While living in Yorktown, VA, he assisted the late Charles Graham, Sr of Yorktown, VA and the late Kenneth Wilson of Hayes, VA in starting the congregation, Gloucester Church of Christ in Hayes, VA. Boyd had many special bonds with the Allens, Brunjes, Frenches, Grahams, Seays, Wilsons and many more church members. He had vast knowledge of the Bible, held Bible studies, devotionals, baptized loved ones and friends. He wanted them to take advantage of God’s incredible retirement plan. Boyd  was an amazing inspiration to all.

Boyd served in the United States Air Force and the Virginia Air National Guard. He retired from Amoco Oil Company in Yorktown, VA in 1993 after 27 years of service. He and his wife Peggy Woodward built their retirement home in Lenoir, NC. He was a member of the American Legion, Lenoir Post 29 for over 20 years. Boyd is the son of the late Hazel Suddreth Woodward and the late Harold George Woodward of Lenoir, NC.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Barry Woodward.

Boyd is survived by wife Peggy Dunford Woodward, daughter Barbara Woodward, son Douglas Woodward, daughter-in-law, Kristin, grandsons Cody, Hunter, Connor and Holden, sisters, Shirley Grigsby and husband, James, Judi Musick and husband, Glen.

May God comfort our aching hearts and fill them with strength as we face life without the wonderful inspiration from Dad and Boyd. We look forward to seeing him again and are grateful he is no longer suffering. The Woodward family would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to the emergency medical staff at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Lenoir, the medical staff at Mission Hospital in Asheville and the staff of Pruitt Health Hospice in North Wilkesboro that attended to our patriarch’s needs. May God bless you all for your hard work, compassion and empathy that you gave to our patriarch and his family.

The Woodward family will receive family and friends on Saturday, August 10th 1:00-2:00 pm at Evans Funeral Service, 1070 Taylorsville Road SE, Lenoir, NC 28645.

The Celebration of Life for Boyd Woodward will be at 2:00 pm at in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Minister Robbie Brunjes officiating.  The burial will immediately follow the service at the family cemetery in Buffalo Cove, NC. Afterwards, the family will have a fellowship in the Woodward home.
