Robert Edward Wilson, Sr., 80, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Caldwell Hospice. He was born in Caldwell County on June 24, 1936 to the late Woodrow Wilson and Ruth Reese Wilson. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Boyd “Bobo” Wilson and Glenwood Wilson; grandson, Matthew Mobley and great-grandson, Caleb Causby. Bob was married for more than 60 years to Peggy Riggs Wilson. He retired after 30 years with the North Carolina Department of Corrections. Growing up in Caldwell County Bob loved playing all kinds of sports, especially baseball. He was always an avid sports fan of Carolina basketball and Atlanta Braves Baseball. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Robert Edward “Ed” Wilson, Jr. and wife, Jackie; daughter, Tamala Jill Wilson “Spanky” and partner, Gentry Tyrrell; sisters, Joyce Triplett; Reba Barlowe and husband, Roy; Norma Dillard; brothers, Rodney Wilson; Freddie Wilson and wife, Judy; granddaughters, Ashley Beaty; Heather Wilson; Claudia Spears and husband, Jordan; great-granddaughter, Emilyn Rae Spears; and numerous nieces and nephews; and his loving dog, Buddy. A memorial service for Bob will be held at Calvary Advent Christian Church on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Jim Lee officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
