Billy Calvin Presnell

August 23, 1958 — April 12, 2023

Billy Calvin Presnell passed away at Caldwell Memorial Hospital on April 12, 2023.

Billy was born on August 23, 1958 in Hickory, North Carolina and then moved to Matney, North Carolina when he was young. He loved the mountains and was always surrounded by family and friends. He had lived in Matney for over 35 years before moving to Lenoir, North Carolina in 2014 with his wife, daughter and grandchildren, which also made him closer to his son in Winston Salem, North Carolina.

Billy was a devoted husband for 46 years to his wife, Teresa. The love he had for her was obvious to everyone they came in contact with and it was clear that his world could not exist without her in it. He showed the same type of unconditional love through his devotion to his children, grandchildren, parents, siblings, and all of his family.

Billy loved playing “Tinkerbell” with his granddaughter as much as he loved teaching his grandsons how to play all the various sports he knew so well. He taught his son how to stand up for what he believes in and the importance of taking care of family, and taught his daughter how to hold her own and to be strong in any situation. He made sure to instill how important it is to always put each other first, be there for one another, and love each other without question. Billy carried those same values with him through all the various sports he loved to play and was a living example of them to his teammates. He was an unstoppable force on any playing field he set foot on and ,even if he beat the bricks off you, there was no denying how bright he shined while doing so. The stories and jokes he told allowed him to go through life without knowing a stranger. He loved seeing people laugh and would use his quick wit and funny stories as often as possible just to watch someone double over or shed a tear. Billy remained active in sports for many years until he was diagnosed with diabetes which robbed him of that joy he had known for so long. As he grew accustomed to his new limitations in life he still never allowed it to keep him from putting others needs before his own. His love for the Lord always kept his spirit strong and his heart full through any hardship he or his family faced. He was truly one of a kind and, even though he was a simple man, he is an absolute legend that will never be forgotten.

Leaving behind a legacy of love and laughs, we know that Billy has found the peace only God could give him. He is free from all the pain and sickness he dealt with for years as he now spends  his days and nights in the wondrous presence of his friend, Jesus. We give thanks and glory to our heavenly father for bringing our earthly father home to Heaven. It is through God's grace that we know we'll see him again. As such, this is not goodbye, this is "catcha' later" to a man who will always be in the hearts of all those he touched.

Those left to cherish him are too many to list, but include His wife Teresa Presnell, Son Calvin Presnell, Daughter Carrie White, Parents Bennie and Hattie Presnell, Brother Jeff Presnell, Sister Lisa Tafoy, Grandchildren Scarlett, Eli, and Tanner, numerous aunts, uncles, and so very many friends.
