Bill Nelson

Hudson – Bill Nelson, age 83, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2022 at his residence. He was born in Caldwell County on May 9, 1939 to the late William Nelson and Callie Coffey Nelson.

Bill was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad where he worked as a brakeman and conductor. He later worked for Clayton Marcus Furniture as an upholsterer in the late 1990’s. Bill was currently employed by Feetpeople. He was an avid bowler, he loved to fish and was a huge sports fan, especially the Atlanta Braves.

Other than his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Chapman; and his beloved wife, Patricia Benfield Nelson.

Bill is survived by his companion, Doris Warren; children, Kresia Kerley and husband, Billy of Taylorsville; Sherry Helton and husband, Joseph of Lenoir; Randy Nelson and wife, Monique of Hudson; Rodney Nelson and wife, Joanie of Lenoir; grandchildren, Samantha Lewis; Ross Helton; Zac Helton; Eli Helton; Asheton Nelson; Julia Nelson; Daphne Jenkins; Nate Lambert; Rodney Nelson, Jr.; Tabitha Winebarger; Shana Shemik; great-grandchildren, Cortney, Hailey and Caddy Lewis; Ziggy and Penelope Helton; Lily and Riley Jenkins; Trinity Nelson; Levi Winebarger; Shaylee and Hawkins Shemik; and other family members.

A celebration of Bill’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 3:00 PM with Pastor Todd Chapman officiating.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 prior to the service.
