Bill Kemp

Lenoir, NC- Mr. Bill Kemp, age 95 of Hudson, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. Born January 29, 1918 in Caldwell County, Mr. Kemp was a son of the late John and Rose McRary Kemp and his late Foster Parents, Dolph and Lora Alley. He was also preceded in death by the love of his life, Flo Henderson Kemp, to whom he was married 76 years, 4 months and 3 days. Others preceding him in death are a Grandson, Joey Bryant and son-in-law Frank Yates; brothers; 2 infant brothers; John Kemp, J. R. Hubbard, Gordon Kemp, Henry Kemp, Belvin Baldwin, Lem and Clem Alley and sister, Christine Harshaw. Mr. Kemp was a member of First Baptist Church in Hudson, was a truck driver by trade and had served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a combat Engineer serving in the Normandy Conflict. He was a lifetime member of the VFW in Hudson and the American Legion Post 392 of Hudson. He is survived by three daughters, Irene Yates of Hickory; Lois Rader and husband Jimmy of Hudson; Joyce Bryant and husband Gary of Hudson; 3 Grandchildren, Billy Yates, Tracy Rader Fleming and husband Donnie and Jamie Rader and wife Mary Kate; 7 Great-Grandchildren, Taylor Johnson, MacKenzie Fleming, Meredith Rader, Ethan Rader, Kaitlyn Rader, Dalton McGee, Andrew Yates and wife Amber and one Great-Great-Grandson, Josiah Yates. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 23, 2013 from 2:00 until 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service in Lenoir. A Graveside service will follow in the Sardis Cemetery in Hudson with Reverend Jim Hamby officiating and will conclude with Military Honors by members of the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be members of the North Carolina National Guard.
