Darby, NC- Mrs. Betty Lou Ernest Woods, age 85, of Darby, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Lenoir.Born July 13, 1928 in Big Sandy, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Elisha David and Sadie Carlton Ernest and the wife of the late Carroll Moore Woods. Other than her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James Thomas Woods, a grandson, Jacob, 4 brothers, Phillip, Bill, Tommy and Richard Ernest and 2 sisters, Lillian and Lydia Ernest. Mrs. Woods was an active member of Rock Spring Baptist Church where she was a member of the WMU, the Director of Vacation Bible School, Church Secretary and Wedding Planner.She had worked at Wilkes Community College providing employment services for the Green Thumb Program. She is survived by her son, Joseph Woods and wife Suzy of Blythe, CA; two daughters, Sara Woods of Asheville; Susan Brindle and husband Larry of Millers Creek; 5 Grandchildren, Krista, Justin, Marcus, Marissa, Michaela, 2 Great-Grandchildren, Riley and Amiyah and a nephew, David Livingston of Darby.She is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends. A celebration of Mrs. Woods’ life will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Rock Spring Baptist Church with Reverend Roy Kanupp and Reverend Ron Burgett officiating.
