Betty Prestwood Setzer passed away Thursday, May 17, 2017, at Caldwell Hospice in Lenoir. She was the daughter of the late John and Ollie Prestwood. Born in Caldwell County on February 20, 1929, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ward Prestwood, and sister Sarah Kimberlin. Left to cherish her precious memory are her sons Robert (Audrey) Setzer of Lenoir, and Doug (Vickie) Setzer of Wilkesboro. Other survivors include her sister Dorothy Bumgarner, sister- in- law, Nancy Prestwood, and nieces and nephews and their children. Her three grandchildren are Elizabeth (Coleman) Hamby, Rebecca (Shawn) Davis and Stephen (Yoana) Setzer. The family will always remember the summer vacations at the beach with Nanna. She cherished the “great grands,” Zachary, Nicolas, Gracie Hamby and Savanna, Sophia, Scotlyn and Sadie Davis. Betty was a life-long member of Colliers United Methodist Church. She received Christ as her Savior in her early years and walked faithfully with Him throughout her long life. The family is so grateful for every visit made by Pastor Lori Ann Bowen and Betty’s friends at Colliers and other churches. After teaching elementary school for many years, she retired from the county schools as a librarian/media coordinator at South Caldwell High School. She dearly loved her sorority sisters, fellow teachers and former students. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to all the caregivers at Shaire Assisted Living Center, nurses and doctors at Hospice of Lenoir, and Dr. Rick McBurney. Thank you to everyone who took the time to pray, visit, send cards, flowers during her time of declining health. Visitation will be at Colliers United Methodist Church Saturday, May 20 from 3:30-5:00 with the funeral beginning at 5:00. Rev. Lori Ann Bowen will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Buck Prestwood, Hoss Prestwood, John Bumgarner, Billy Lovins, Shawn Davis, and Coleman Hamby. Burial will be at Colliers Cemetery.
