Betty Ozena Edmisten

Lenoir – Betty Ozena Pope Summerlin Edmisten, 87 went to be with the Lord surrounded by her loving family on December 6, 2013 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. She was born June 13, 1926 to the late John Calloway and Amelia Triplett Pope of Lenoir. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Dallas C. Summerlin and R. Cody Edmisten, a son James Dallas Summerlin, a brother Victor Pope and two sisters, Verna Eve Pope and Zada Triplett Hedden all of Lenoir. Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Ann Summerlin, Aileen Edmisten Johnson and her husband Marvin Johnson of Lenoir and one son R. Shuford Edmisten and his wife Wendy A. Edmisten of Flat Rock, N.C. Two granddaughters, Sheila Summerlin and Erica J. Greene and husband Kevin of Lenoir and six grandsons, Devin Summerlin, Troy L. Johnson of Lenoir, Alex S. Edmisten and his wife Crystal of West Jefferson, N.C. SGT. David A. Capps and his wife Jessica of Ft. Stewart, GA. Daniel R. Moody and Aaron T. Moody of Flat Rock, NC. Eight great grand children, Dallas S. Coffey, Alexis Summerlin, Abigail Phillips, Tristen Johnson, Rachel and Charlie Greene, Lydia and Corben Edmisten, three nieces, Wanda Pope, Annette Francum and Dr. Carol J. Hackett and her husband Dr. Peter Hackett of Tacoma, Washington. Seven nephews, Vickie Pope of Atlanta, Ga. John C. Pope and his wife, Joan. David Pope and wife Bea, Roy Pope and his wife Debra and Cleve Pope, Tom Hedden and His wife Mary Alice of Atlanta, GA. and Bill Hedden and his wife Linda. Betty was a lifelong resident of Caldwell County and a member of First Advent Christian Church of Lenoir. She was retired from Singer Furniture Company and enjoyed life with her beloved family. She rejoiced in her life of flower gardens and letterwriting. She will be missed by many and enjoyed loving life with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be the grandsons. Honorary pallbearers serving will be Vickie, John, David, Roy and Cleve Pope, Tom and Bill Hedden. A celebration of life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at 3:00 with Pastors David Richards and Jim Lee with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir.
