Betty Jean Melton Greene

Lenoir, NC – Mrs. Betty Jean Melton Greene, age 72, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, August 31, 2012 at Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care. Mrs. Greene was born in Caldwell County on May 26, 1940 to the late John G. Melton and Timmie Ola Lowe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Landon Greene; step father, Robert Lowe; two brothers, John Henry Melton and Gary Lowe; one sister, Jeanette Lowe Small; sister-in-law, Marsha Melton and one great niece. Mrs. Greene was a former manager of the Sunoco Poppe Shop. Additionally, she kept children in her home before and after school. Betty was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 5381, where she served as Senior Vice President. Mrs. Greene was a member of Grandview Park Baptist Church. Survivors in addition to her step-mother, Ella Mae Melton, include six brothers, Bob Melton and wife Betty, Wayne Melton, Bill Melton and wife Irene, Steve Melton and wife Cynthia, Bobby Lowe and wife Georgia and Steve Lowe; three sisters, Linda Beane and husband Wilford, Lorene Pettit and husband Carl, and Ruby Lowe. She is also survived by eighteen nieces and nephews and 20 great nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mrs. Greene’s life will be held at Grandview Park Baptist Church on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at 3:00 PM with Pastor Raymond Spann officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at East Flat Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be: Jeff Melton, Jerry Whisnant, Jerald Vines, Bobby Harmon, David Coffey and Jessie Greer, Jr. The family requests memorials be made to Grandview Park Baptist Church Building Fund, 2539 Grandview Circle, Lenoir, NC 28645 or to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
