Betty Rose Miller Mackie, age 91, of Gamewell, passed away on November 18, 2024. Born January 7, 1933 in Burke County, Betty Rose was the daughter of the late Mary Mooney and William (Bill) Powell.

Betty Rose was a devoted member of Hartland Baptist Church where she served as Treasurer for 50 years and taught Sunday School. She began working as an operator for Southern Bell/AT&T in 1952 while attending Morganton High School, and after graduating, began working in the Business Office where she remained for 30 years until her retirement in 1983. She was an active member of the Blue Ridge Pioneers, where she enjoyed close friendships with her former co-workers.  Her position as Secretary, Treasurer and Correspondent in the Telephone Pioneers gave her great purpose and enjoyment.

Betty was loved by all who knew her and enjoyed helping others behind the scene. She enjoyed talking with friends, working in her yard, and staying busy with projects. She loved watching Hallmark movies, Fox News, and listening to country music. She was proud of her family and especially enjoyed her grandchildren.  Until her recent illness, she enjoyed life to the fullest, always finding some good in every situation.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Mark A. Miller, son, William Lawrence (Billy) Miller, brother, Robert (Bobby) J. Powell, husband, Dennis Mackie and step-daughter, Tamra Mackie Duncan. She is survived by her son, David Miller (Dora), her daughter, Mary Clyde Wilson (Tres), grandchildren, Shelby and Owen Wilson, step-daughters, Crystal Mackie (Kim), Sonya Brookshire (Jimmy), and step-son Britt Mackie (Lisa), five step-grandchildren, as well as, her sister-in-law, Kelly Powell and her nieces and nephews who were very special to her. The family would especially like to thank her neighbors Glenn and Teresa Hamrick for their friendship.
