Lenoir- Mrs. Betty Carlton Gentry, age 83, passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Gateway Healthcare. She was born in Watauga County on September 19, 1932 to the late Sherman and Jessie Botts Carlton. Mrs. Gentry retired from the furniture industry after working for several years. She was a member of Abington Road Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Dean Gentry; brothers, Winfred Carlton and Willard H. Carlton; daughter-in-law, Sara Gentry; and grandchildren, Wayne Dale Gentry, Jr. and Katherine Everhardt. She is survived by her children, Mark Gentry and wife, Vicki; Wayne Dale Gentry; Carolyn Ruth Gentry; and Willard Dean Gentry; brothers, Hubert Carlton and wife, Betty; and David Carlton and wife, Joanne; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mrs. Gentry’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Sunday, May 29, 2016 at 4:00 PM with Pastor Raymond Coffey officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 prior to the service.
