Lenoir, NC- Betty Mae Baker Hammond, age 64, of Lenoir, died Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care. Born December 4, 1942 in Caldwell County, Mrs. Hammond was a daughter of the late Vernon and Zella Mae Hamby Baker and the wife of the late Gilbert Bascom Hammond. Mrs. Hammond was a member of Miller Hill Baptist Church and was a waitress at the Carolina Restaurant in Lenoir. She is survived by one daughter, Tammy Munday of Granite Falls; 5 sons, Jeff Hammond and wife Jeri of Hudson; Tommy Hammond of Sawmills; William ?Jasper? McLean of Marion; Dean Hammond of Lenoir; Steve Hammond and wife Denise of Gamewell; 6 brothers, Bill Baker of Hudson; Johnny, Vernon, Gene, Roger and Steve Baker, all of Lenoir; 2 sisters, Rita Sutherland of Hickory; Brenda Shoemake of Collettesville; 10 grandchildren, Nathan, Matthew, Stephanie, Thomas, Jeremy and Tommy Lee Hammond and Jennifer Mercer, Jodi Mast, Christian Estes and Garrett Munday and 5 great-grandchildren. Other than her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Bob Baker. A celebration of her life will be held 7:00 PM Thursday, October 11, 2007 at Miller Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Steve Walsh and Reverend David Bean officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 PM on Thursday, one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
