Bertie Lowe Simmons

Lenoir, NC- Mrs. Bertie Mae Lowe Simmons, age 92, of Lenoir, died Monday, April 6, 2009 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care. Born February 4, 1917, Bertie was a daughter to the late Lidia J. Honey and Bill Lowe. She was a member of the Collier’s United Methodist Church and had worked many years as a manager at the Carolina Restaurant.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin “Pucker” Simmons; and a brother Richard Lowe. Surviving are her daughter and son in law, Gwen Simmons Setzer and husband Bill of Lenoir; Two granddaughters, Gena Setzer Triplett and husband Neal of Holly Springs, and Teresa Setzer Zell and husband Gary of Ringoes, NJ; a grandson, Todd Setzer and wife Tracy of Lenoir; Eight great grandchildren, Taryn Triplett, Trevin Triplett, Tanner Triplett, Sara Setzer, Sidney Setzer, Cameron Zell, Bryce Zell, and Avery Zell; she is also survived by numerous other relatives. A celebration of Mrs. Simmons life will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, April 9, 2008 at Collier’s United Methodist Church with Reverend Bill Taylor and Reverend Martha Profitt officiating. The burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Wallace, Bob Evans, Trevin Triplett, Tanner Triplett, Cameron Zell, and John-David Miller. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00.
