Barbara Ann Young

July 11, 1938 — February 11, 2008

Lenoir, NC- Mrs. Barbara Ann Young, age 69, of Lenoir, died Monday, February 11, 2008 at her home surrounded by her family.  Born July 11, 1938 in Caldwell County, she was a daughter of the late Lura Caudle Atkins and the wife of the late Joseph David Young.  Mrs. Young was a proud graduate of the class of 1957 of Lenoir High School where she was co-captain of the Lady Bearcats basketball team. Even though she missed her 50th class reunion, she was there in spirit with her extended Bearcat Family.  In the 1950?s, she was employed at the Center Theatre and from the 1960?s through the 1980?s she was employed by Dr. Phillip Fail and Dr. Sidney Snow, whom she regarded highly. She later became the owner and operator of Underdown Flowers until her retirement.  Mrs. Young is survived by her two sons, Joe Young and wife Annitra and Jeff Young and Finance? Teresa Pike, all of Lenoir; one brother, Jimmy Atkins and wife Elmedia of Gamewell; one sister, Judy Stroud and husband Phillip of Cleveland, TN and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved and adored.  Other than her mother and husband, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Helen Mack and Scottie Sue Hamby. A celebration of Mrs. Young?s life will be held at Noon on Friday, February 15, 2008 in the Mausoleum Chapel of Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with Reverend Steve Butler officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
