Barbara Lamkin Price

January 9, 1940 — November 9, 2010

Barbara Evelyn Price, 70, of Lenoir, went to be with her Lord, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, November 9, 2010. Barbara passed away peacefully at Caldwell Hospice after a brief illness.  Barbara was born January 9, 1940 in Watauga County, N.C. to the late Wanda Gragg Lamkin and the late Clarence R. Lamkin.  Barbara was a graduate of Hudson High School, Class of 1958, and was an active member of Lower Creek Baptist Church in Lenoir, where she will always be fondly remembered for her selfless dedication and willingness to help anyone in any way she could.  Barbara married Bobby Price of King's Creek on August 8, 1959 at Grandview Park Baptist Church in Lenoir, and they remained happily betrothed for 51 years. Barbara and Bobby lived in Germany for two years while Bobby served in the U.S. Army. The Gerheiser family offered their home to them while they were stationed in Germany and they have been in constant communication ever since. The Gerheiser generation is still a strong part of Barbara’s family today. Barbara became a realtor on August 31, 1979 and worked tirelessly for several area realtors for the next 35 years. She has worked at The Property Shop, Barlow and Triplett Realty and Baker Realty, and even owned her own company “Town and Country Realty” for a number of years.  She was consistently a Top Producer and a member of the prestigious Multi-Million Dollar Producer Club. Barbara always did more than she was asked or expected to do, and her success was a reflection of that dedication to service.  Barbara enjoyed cooking and decorating, gospel music, church activities, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Anyone who was fortunate enough to sit down to a meal prepared by Barbara never forgot it, and no one ever left the Price home hungry. She was never happier than when she was helping others, as the people whose lives she touched with her generosity and selflessness would attest.  In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by a son, Michael Shawn Price, a sister, Judith Allen Lamkin, and her beloved maternal grandparents, Julius Allen Gragg and Charlotte Dula Gragg.  Barbara is survived by her devoted husband of over 51 years, Bobby Price. She is also survived by a son, Todd Price and Jenna Griffith of Lenoir, a daughter, Kameron Price Barlow and husband Patrick Barlow of Lenoir, and daughter Shawna Price Houck and husband Chad Houck of Hickory.  In addition, Barbara is survived by a grandson, Ashton Barlow, and three granddaughters, Monica Barlow, Chelsea Price and Braelynn Price, all of Lenoir. She had one great-grandson, Tristen Price Parlier.  Barbara also is survived by a sister, Charlotte Coffey Summey and husband Claude Summey of Hickory, and a brother, Richard Lamkin of Conover.  The Receiving of Friends will be held Friday, November 12, at Lower Creek Baptist Church from 5:00-7:00 PM. The funeral will be conducted Saturday, November 13 at 11:00 AM, also at Lower Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Todd Braswell will officiate. Burial will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers will be David Martin, Gary Laws, Dan Whistler, Bill Terry, Mike Broach, and Jerry Laws, all members of Barbara and Bobby's Couples V Sunday School Class. Other class members will serve as honorary pallbearers.  In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to the Caldwell County Hospice.
