Ava L. Maher

Hudson, NC- Mrs. Ava Lee Maher, age 86, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2013 at Caldwell Hospice. She was born in Caldwell County on November 13, 1926 to the late Walter J. Hendrix and Bertha Correll Hendrix. Mrs. Maher was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hudson. She loved her family and enjoyed the time she spent with them. She loved the North Carolina mountains and at one time lived at the New Jersey shore, she loved the ocean. In her later years she enjoyed the company of her family and friends and her many visits from her son Joey. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Maher; brothers, Charles Hendrix and Jerry Hendrix; and sisters, Margie Beach and Mildred Franklin. She is survived by her son, Joseph T. Meinert, Jr. of Cedar Grove, NJ; daughter, Susan Palumbo and her husband Rhus of Miami Beach, FL; brother, Fred Hendrix and his wife, Bonnie; brother, Jack Hendrix; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mrs. Maher’s life will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Monday, October 14, 2013 at 1:30 PM with Pastor Ann Kelly officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service and Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:30 PM prior to the service.
