Annie Cora Ferguson Davenport

Mrs. Annie Cora Davenport passed from this life to her heavenly reward on Monday, March 7, 2011 at Lenoir Healthcare Center, after an extended illness. She was born to the late Charlie E. Ferguson and Toy Tilley Ferguson, on August 1, 1925. In addition to her parents, Annie was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Davenport, a daughter, Toy Melinda Davenport; four sisters, Zula Davenport, Mattie Davenport, Kathryn Raven, and Coleen Shade; and two brothers, Roger Ferguson and Paye Ferguson. Annie was a graduate of Freedman High School and received her CNA certificate from Caldwell Technical Institute. Annie was a devoted member of St. Paul AME Church.  She gave of her time and talents to the glory of God, serving as a member of Stewardess Board Number 2, a Missionary, an usher, and a member of the Sunday School. She was also a member of the Harper-Witherspoon ALA, Unit 231. Annie gave of herself to others, always willing to offer a helping hand. Whether it be visiting the sick, providing food for the hungry, or giving a kind word to the down trodden, she was forever a Missionary, telling others of the goodness of God. Annie leaves to cherish beautiful memories, three daughters, Shirley Patterson of Springfield, VA, Carol Davenport of Raleigh, NC, and Priscilla Davenport Johnson (Calvin) of San Antonio, TX; four grandchildren, Dawn Clements of Springfield, VA, Kimberly Greer (Brian) of Fairfax VA, Nigel Kelly of Raleigh, NC, and Jamaal Kelly of Richmond VA; six great-grandchildren, Alesha Armstrong, Shira Greer, Adara Greer, Ethan Greer, Aniah Kelly, and Carter Kelly; two sisters, Juliet Steed of San Antonio, TX and Mary Norwood (Rev. Jimmie) of Lenoir, NC; two brothers, Jay Ferguson of Lenoir, NC and Romilles Ferguson of Winston Salem, NC; very special family friends, Mrs. Elree Ferguson and Mrs. Mary Crews; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. A celebration of Annie’s life will be held on Friday, March 11, 2011 at 1:30 PM at the St. Paul AME Zion Church with Reverend Wanda Howell officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Belleview Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM.
