Alice Ruth York

Hudson, NC- Mrs. Alice Ruth ?Big Mama? York, age 71, went home to be with the Lord late Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care. Born June 19, 1937 in Ashe County, Mrs. York was a daughter of the late Green and Irene Wyatt Blevins. She was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and also a member of the choir. She had worked for 32 years at Broyhill Industries. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everette E. ?Gene? York; and one brother Eugene Blevins. She is survived by four sons and a daughters in law, Don Blevins of Hudson, Kevin and Donna York of Lenoir, Bradley and Shirley York of Buena Park, CA, and Kenneth York of Florence, CO.; One daughter and son in law, Michelle and Steve Ringler of Riverside, CA; Four sisters and brothers in law, Betty and Albert Whitehead of Lilburn, GA, Yvonne E. Munday of Hudson, and Corinne E. and Cecil Pope of Granite Falls, and Linda Tessiner of Hudson; Six brothers and sisters in law, William and Judy Blevins of Boca Raton, FL, Jimmy and Nell Blevins of Sebring, FL, Bobby Joe and Nellie Blevins of Granite Falls, Donald and Belinda Blevins of Monticello, Kentucky, Victor Escalle Jr. of Hickory, and Michael Blevins of Brewton, AL; Her stepmother, Margaret Q. Blevins of Hudson; Four grandchildren, Josh, Craig, and Erika Ringler, and Jason York; A special family member, Baby Ruth; She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. A celebration of Mrs. York?s life will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the Union Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Sam Craven officiating. Burial will be held in Blue Ridge Memorial Park. Her nephews will serve as pallbearers.
