Albert Craig

Lenoir- Albert Jones Craig age 88, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at the Asheville VA Hospital.He was born in Lenoir, NC on October 26, 1927 to the late Azor and Edna Craig.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria Whitworth Craig and two brothers, Ray and Denny Craig. Albert is survived by his second wife, Nell Smith Craig. He was a WWII veteran and served on the USS President Jackson from 1945 1948 where he received various Navy medals.Albert then became a master pipefitter and plumber working on government projects with the Local 96 Pipefitters Union including the Savannah River Project.After retiring from the Union, Mr. Craig continued his plumbing business locally in Lenoir, NC.He was also a farmer and raised beef cattle at his home. Other than his wife, Albert Jones Craig is survived by three brothers of Lenoir, Gene Craig and wife, Faye; Howard Craig and wife, Pauline; and Bruce Craig.He is also survived by sons and daughters, Jerry Craig and wife, Gina of Lenoir; Ryan Craig and wife, Regina of Hickory; Neil Craig of Lenoir; Maritta Freeman and husband, Doc of Granite Falls; and Lisa Vincent and husband, Ron of Sherrills Ford; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.Albert is also survived by three step children, Peggy Clark and husband, James; Chuck Smith and wife, Shirley; Eric Smith and wife, Millie, all of Granite Falls as well as six step grandchildren, and eight step great grandchildren. Receiving of family and friends will be held at Collier s Methodist Church on Friday, October 16, 2015 at 12:00 PM followed by the funeral service at 1:00 PM with Pastor Sam Craven officiating.Burial will immediately follow the service at Collier s cemetery.
